The 2025 Tour de France season kicked off yesterday with the Tudor-sponsored team led by team leader Fabian Cancellara. To celebrate this event, Tudor is launching the Pelagos FXD Yellow watch.
2016 was Fabian Cancellara’s last year racing in France. Now, in 2025, he will return to the pinnacle of professional cycling as a team owner, not a rider. To celebrate his achievements over the past few years, he will wear a new limited edition Pelagos FXD Chrono watch on his wrist, which is decorated with stunning yellow embellishments.
Fabian Cancellara has a special connection to the world’s most legendary cycling race, having led (or worn the yellow jersey, as cycling enthusiasts would say) the race for 29 days and won eight stages. This year, he returns to France as team owner, taking charge of a team that was just an idea three years ago, embodying a powerful message: progress does not happen by accident, but is the result of commitment and perseverance. On his wrist, he wears the Pelagos FXD Chrono “Yellow”, a symbol of his time on France’s most challenging roads in the sweltering summer, and a lucky charm for future challenges. This watch is limited to 300 pieces. The number 7 has been remembered, as it is Fabian Cancellara’s signature number.
Professional cycling is not for the faint of heart. Every pedal stroke tests the rider’s physical and mental limits, not to mention the dangers inherent in the sport. A watch designed for professional cycling must withstand these extreme demands while remaining simple to operate. As we all know, the fastest bikes are often made of carbon fiber, so Tudor chose a carbon fiber composite case for the new chronograph, designed for the brave rider. Titanium elements enhance the watch's robustness, making it able to cope with the ever-changing road conditions.
During the design phase, it was important not only to consider the durability of the watch, but also to ensure that it is truly practical when riding. The tachymeter scale of a chronograph is usually calibrated to the speed of a car; in fact, many Tudor chronographs are equipped with scales usually associated with motorsports. What makes the Pelagos FXD Chrono “Yellow” unique is that its scale is tailored to the speeds that cyclists can withstand. The chronograph scale spirals around the dial, allowing cyclists to read their average speed at a glance. The tachymeter function on the Pelagos FXD Chrono “Yellow” is designed for cycling.
Race-ready dial
The matte black dial with yellow accents is easy to read and reminiscent of the challenging sport of cycling. The iconic square hour markers and “snowflake” hands were designed by Tudor in the sixties to provide a larger luminous surface for improved legibility. Today, these hands are made of luminous ceramic composite, making them highly legible even in adverse conditions. The outer ring of the dial is printed with a 45° angle scale, while the inner ring focuses on the rider’s speed and has been recalibrated.
Cycling fabric strap
The integrated fabric strap is one of Tudor’s signature features and Tudor was one of the first watchmakers to offer it in 2010. Woven on 19th-century jacquard looms by Julien Faure in Saint-Étienne, France, this strap is unparalleled in terms of manufacturing quality, robustness and wearing comfort. Tudor and Julien Faure have worked together to develop a high-tech strap construction for the Pelagos FXD watch collection. Made from a 22mm black jacquard woven technical fabric with yellow stripes and fitted with a traditional buckle, this strap is ideal for cycling.
Manufactured Chronograph Calibre MT5813
The Pelagos FXD Chrono is equipped with the Tudor Manufacture Calibre MT5813, which displays hours, minutes, seconds, chronograph and date. The movement features the typical matte finish of Tudor Manufacture movements and is equipped with the iconic tungsten skeletonized integrated rotor.
With a 70-hour power reserve that is “good for weekends” and a silicon balance spring, the Manufactured Chronograph Calibre MT5813 is chronometer-certified by the Swiss Official Observatory (COSC) and exceeds the standards set by this independent institution, with a daily deviation of no more than -2 seconds and +4 seconds, which is tested on every assembled chronograph. This high-performance movement is in the purest watchmaking tradition and is equipped with a column wheel and vertical clutch. In keeping with Tudor’s philosophy, all Tudor products undergo a series of rigorous tests to ensure their extraordinary robustness and reliability.
The movement is derived from Breitling's self-made 01 chronograph movement, equipped with Tudor's independently developed high-precision speed regulating mechanism and unique finish, and is the result of the long-term cooperation between the two brands.
